STV virtual trek from Nepal to Bristol

1st February 2024

Our team of staff, trustees and volunteers have started a virtual trek from Nepal to our head office in Bristol, to celebrate our 30th Anniversary!

Our team of over 20 staff, trustees and volunteers have started the virtual trek to our head office in Bristol, from Nepal where our founder was inspired to set up the charity 30 years ago. We are running, walking, swimming, cycling, skiing... anything goes as we make our way to our destination!

Step Together Volunteering was founded in 1994 by Roger Potter MBE, who was inspired to set up an organisation promoting the benefits of volunteering for young people from disadvantaged backgrounds whilst leading an expedition to the Nepalese Himalayas.

We now support young people in Bristol and Dumfries & Galloway who are not in Employment, Education or Training (NEET), the Armed Forces community, and people with criminal convictions, who are also struggling with low confidence and poor mental wellbeing. We provide one-to-one support for as long as the individual needs it, matching them with volunteering opportunities that will help them gain confidence, skills, and experience.

We also support people to develop healthier lifestyle habits, including exercising to support improved mental wellbeing.

''Joining the Nepal to Bristol challenge has been brilliant for motivating me to exercise more regularly. It’s great to be part of a team all working towards the same goal. Since starting, I’ve been exercising almost every day, and have really noticed the benefits for my mental health and my sleep.” - Deborah, Operations Manager.
