Our Impact
Supporting people to build confidence, skills and positive futures
Every year we support hundreds of people to take steps towards a more positive future.
Behind every number is a person rebuilding confidence, developing new skills and discovering that they have something valuable to contribute.
How we measure impact
Step Together Volunteering works with people who face complex and overlapping challenges. Traditional outcome tools often fail to capture the subtle, relational, and internal changes that matter most, such as confidence, agency, and feeling seen and heard.
Our impact framework has been designed to:
- Measure distance travelled over time, not just snapshots
- Centre the client’s voice and self-reported change
- Recognise fluctuating mental health and circumstances, while still evidencing progress
- Be credible, proportionate, and practice for our frontline delivery team.
What we measure
We focus on outcome areas that reflect both practical and personal change:
- Confidence
- Aspirations and goals
- Emotional wellbeing and mental health
- Skills for everyday living and progress towards education/employment
- Feeling in control and having agency
- Feeling seen, heard, and understood
- Positive and affirming connections with friends, family, and community
We believe that individuals experiencing demonstrable change in these areas will develop resilience. Our intention is that people are better able to cope with life’s ups and downs moving forward, when we are no longer “stepping together” with them.
Our impact in numbers
Last year:
- Over 170 people received intensive one-to-one support
- Over 100 people took part in volunteering opportunities
- 76% reported increased confidence and aspirations
- 73% reported improved wellbeing
- 68% develop new skills that support everyday living or employment
- 75% progress into education, training or employment
