How we work

A different kind of support

Many services are time-limited, prescriptive, or focused on a single issue. But the people we support are often navigating complex and overlapping challenges that cannot be resolved quickly or in isolation.

That’s why our approach is different.

We provide person-centred, flexible, and holistic support for as long as it takes for someone to build confidence and move forward. Our role is not to tell people what to do, but to walk alongside them as they discover their own strengths and direction.

Person-centred support

Every client we support works one-to-one with a dedicated member of our team.

Together they:

  • explore strengths, interests and aspirations.
  • identify barriers that may be holding them back.
  • plan manageable steps towards their goals, addressing barriers.
  • build confidence and self-belief .
  • develop practical skills for everyday life .
  • take steps towards a brighter future which, for many, includes education, training or employment.

The pace and focus of support is shaped by the individual, helping them develop agency and control.

For some people this may involve rebuilding trust and confidence. For others it may involve preparing for work, education or training.

The power of volunteering

Volunteering is at the heart of our approach.

Through volunteering, participants can:

  • experience being part of something positive
  • develop practical and transferable skills
  • build relationships and social connections
  • gain confidence through contributing to their community .

We work with a wide range of community organisations to create meaningful volunteering opportunities that match each person’s interests and goals. These experiences often become an important stepping stone towards employment, education or training.

Working in partnership

We collaborate with organisations across the voluntary, public and community sectors.

Partners may:

  • refer people to our programmes
  • host volunteering opportunities
  • provide specialist support alongside our work

By working together, we can ensure that people receive the support they need to move forward.

Theory of Change

If people facing multiple disadvantage receive personalised support that builds trust, confidence and practical skills…

…and if they are supported to engage in meaningful volunteering and positive community experiences…

…then they are more likely to:

  • develop confidence and self-belief
  • build positive relationships and social connections
  • improve wellbeing and resilience
  • gain practical skills and experience
  • take steps towards education, training or employment

Over time, this leads to greater independence, stronger communities and more positive life opportunities.
