STV run the Bristol 10k

1st March 2024

Thank you to our staff, trustees and supports who are running the Bristol 10k on Sunday 19th May, raising money for Step Together Volunteering and to celebrate our 30th anniversary!

We are so excited to announce that three of our trustees, one staff member, and a team member from Unite Students will be taking on the Bristol 10k route on Sunday 19th May, to raise funds for Step Together Volunteering!

Natasha Smith, People Advisor at Unite Students says: “STV is a charity close to Unite Students’ heart. We very much admire all the hard work and dedication that goes into supporting those facing additional challenges in life. I am proud to be running for these incredible people!”

Step Together Volunteering supports young people aged 16-25 in Bristol who are not in Employment, Education or Training (NEET) and struggling with low confidence and poor mental wellbeing. They charity provides one-to-one support, for as long as the young person needs it and matches them with volunteering opportunities that will help them gain confidence, skills, and experience.

The charity also supports people to develop healthier lifestyle habits, including exercising to support improved mental wellbeing. Lucinda Horton, Business Manager at Step Together Volunteering says: “I hadn’t anticipated signing up for any races, but when I heard there was one charity space left for Step Together Volunteering it felt like a worthwhile challenge to set myself. Getting back to running after becoming a mother for the second time has been key to feeling good, so I am excited to join my fellow STV runners on 19th May at the Bristol 10k event and help raise some vital funds for STV!”

Established in 1994, Step Together Volunteering also supports people with criminal convictions, veterans and service personnel. It has projects spanning the length of the country, from Dumfries & Galloway down to the south coast. Each year around 200-300 people are supported to feel more confident, become more connected to their communities and develop skills to help them move forward. The charity relies on funding from charitable trusts, grant-making organisations and public donations to provide much-needed support to people.

Anna-Clare Temple, CEO at Step Together Volunteering, says: “It’s really great to have people running the iconic Bristol 10K in support of Step Together Volunteering. All the funds raised will help us to support young people in Bristol. We’d like to thank all our runners, like Natasha and Lucinda, for helping us to raise awareness of the work that Step Together Volunteering does.”
