It’s Trustees’ Week!
Trustees’ week is about celebrating the amazing work that our trustees do for our charity. Trustees volunteer their time, skills and expertise to help charities run - without them, charities wouldn’t be able to function! Many people aren’t aware of the importance of trustees within a charity, but they are completely vital to the support we are able to offer our clients, and we are so grateful for all the time and energy they have given to Step Together Volunteering.
What do trustees do?
Trustees are responsible for supporting charity governance, this includes things like:
- Setting the strategy
- Making decisions
- Managing finances
- Safeguarding people
- Supporting the leadership team
- Managing risks
Our trustees
We have a range of trustees at Step Together Volunteering, each providing their own unique set of skills and knowledge. Running a charity to support our clients requires a lot of parts to work together behind the scenes, and so it’s vital that our trustees’ expertise collectively reflect these different parts.
Our trustees have experience in the following sectors: legal, finance, charity, marketing, business, Armed Forces, education, and criminal justice.
Why be a trustee?
Being a trustee is a great way to connect with other like-minded people, learn new skills, and feel like you are really making a difference to people’s lives.
'Being a trustee for Step Together Volunteering feels fulfilling and rewarding. The team works tirelessly to provide much needed support to their clients that is not available elsewhere, and I feel privileged to be part of this team. I enjoy interacting with the other trustees and wider team and have found each of the people involved in this charity to be dedicated, hardworking, and caring – they genuinely care about making a difference in someone’s life.' - Step Together Volunteering trustee.
We are recruiting for a new trustee with experience of the criminal justice sector
As part of our board succession planning process, we are looking for a trustee with experience or knowledge of the criminal justice system to ensure this area of our work has representation at Board level.
Your experience will ideally have been gained through professional work in the Criminal Justice Sector. This could be through employment within the Prisons or Probation Service, other Ministry of Justice role, Youth Justice teams, Police, or with another charity or agency working in the sector. Good networks within the justice system in the southwest would be advantageous.
